What to Wear for Maternity Photos in Durham Region (A Complete Style Guide)

Choosing what to wear for your maternity session can feel overwhelming — especially when you want to feel both comfortable and beautiful. The truth is, what you wear plays a big role in how your images feel. And it’s totally up to you and your style. While you want to feel beautiful and have timeless images, remember that what you wear needs to reflect you and your style.

This guide is designed to help you choose pieces that feel timeless, flattering, and true to you — so you can step into your session feeling confident and at ease. If you are looking for a Durham Region photographer to help you document this beautiful time in your life look no further.

You have access to the studio wardrobe for mama. If we are doing a couple maternity session, once you have reserved your date, I can provide you with a Pinterest Inspo board should you need help.

1. Choose Soft, Neutral Tones

Neutral tones photograph beautifully and keep the focus on you. It’s some of my favourite ways to capture you mama in this exciting season you are in.

Think:

• creams

• soft whites

• pastels

• muted earth tones

While solids work well, that’s not to say a floral or print can’t. You just need to remember that whatever you choose (if bringing your own outfit) needs to compliment your husband/partners. The colours above create a calm, cohesive look that will feel timeless years from now.

2. Flowy Dresses That Move With You

Long, flowing dresses are a favourite for maternity sessions.

They:

• highlight your bump naturally

• create soft movement

• photograph beautifully in both standing and seated poses

3. Comfort Is Key

If you’re not comfortable, it will show. Trust me ;). Some clients choose to wear jeans and a t-shirt. Yes this can still be done. Your maternity session celebrates this time in your lives and if you prefer to keep it casual and clean. I am all for that too!

Choose pieces that:

• allow you to move easily

• feel soft on your skin

• don’t require constant adjusting

4. Coordinating Your Partner + Children

Keep outfits simple and cohesive.

• neutrals work best

• avoid bold patterns or logos or graffiti

• soft layering adds depth without distraction

5. Studio Wardrobe Options

Many clients choose to use studio maternity outfits from my wardrobe for a fully curated look.

This allows you to:

• avoid shopping stress

• try on options

• trust the overall styling
