As a mama of two young adults and a newborn photographer here in Oshawa and Durham Region, I’m often asked about the right time. So today, I’m sharing what I tell every mom who reaches out: it’s never too early to plan for these once-in-a-lifetime memories.

Here’s When to Book (and Why)

The ideal time to book your newborn session is during your second trimester. That’s when most moms are feeling a little more energized, the nausea is hopefully behind you (fingers crossed) and we can plan your session with calm intention.

Booking early means:

• You’ll have time to browse the client wardrobe and plan what you’d like to wear or bring something from home (or not worry at all—I’ve got you covered!)

When Will the Session Take Place?

Newborn sessions are typically scheduled within the first 7–14 days after birth—that sweet window when your baby is still sleepy, naturally curled, and adjusting to life outside the womb. But if your little one is past the two-week mark, don’t worry. I’ve photographed older newborns with beautiful results too—especially in my light-filled studio where calm and comfort come first.
