Its a whole lot of Birthday’s lately and we love welcoming back our littles to see how much they have grown.
Meet Liam! Mom and Dad came from Toronto for his newborn session which was the sweetest. Since then most of you know I have retired from Newborn Photography after 14 years in that niche. While I still love newborns I have made way for other areas in the business.
Thankful and grateful for all that has helped me grow into today and oh so blessed to get to celebrate little ones like Liam too!
Liam sure does love his beautiful mom. She was right down on the floor with him to encourage him in his new temporary surroundings. Often times I do have moms within arms reach for this reason. The second reason is so that I can step back and document those moments that you have hired me to do so ;)
Now with fair warning, not all sessions go as smooth as you intend them too. And this is OK! It’s completely normal. While we do try our best and are patient, some little ones just have a hard time adjusting to new spaces (especially since being cooped up in the house thanks to COVID)
So mom and I decided to crank his fav tunes and see how he reacted. The last 2 images are thanks to “Old Town Road”…

Next on the blog is sweet Etta! You may remember her moms beautiful Floral Maternity session HERE. How has 1 year flown by already?
Little Miss Etta is such a doll and was the most quiet sweetest little babe while in studio. Inquisitive and happy. Loved looking out the studio windows and looking for birds and cars lol. It is always such a beautiful experience when watching PKP & Aspen Littles explore, share their new tricks and learned skills in front of the camera. Mom & Dad’s are proud and encouraging while enjoying watching me capture this for them. That is a great honour so I thank you for choosing us to document these fleeting moments for you!
I absolutely love the fresh floral arrangements that Aspen Florist creates for our session. There are so many reasons to book a floral session should this be something you’d like to consider and be in your budget. But apart from the stunning imagery and custom experience you receive, the number one thing I love is the attention to detail and creativity that Lisa at Aspen Florist pours her heart into. Each blossom, is carefully handpicked & processed. But it doesn’t stop there, prior to your session she arrives ahead of you to assemble, organize and curate different set ups for you. Right down to the last petal placement.
Pending on the number of ppl in studio during COVID restrictions too, she often stays to be hands on during our shoots. To replace the details our babies so love to enjoy, touch and feel so that your images are just perfect heirloom memories!
I love watching her work (while we chat) and I handle any last minute details for you. Our attention to detail, health and safety (always, not just during COVID) is something we pride ourselves in.

Celebrating 1st Birthday’s in style is sweet!
A Summer Cake smash session wouldn’t be the same without strawberries right? Would you look at this stunning cake combination? Okay..so now that you have started to drool, scroll down and check out the sweetest baby girl who had the pleasure of enjoying this gorgeous masterpiece.
Do you remember Maci from our cradle sessions earlier this past year? You know..the one that stole our hearts with her cheeky tongue HERE? She turned ONE way too fast. But oh my word… we had so much fun for her session.
Maci is the rare gem that has an expression for everything. Sass, sweetness and character shines strong with this one. I LOVE every minute of our sessions too! She keeps us on our toes (Bless her beautiful mama lol)

We did a fun cake smash session and ended with a strawberry milk bath. A first for the studio but I am sure she had a tummy full of berries by the time she left.

Oh sweet Ramona! We have had so much fun photographing you over this past year. This Milk bath session was no exception. You know, when we plan for a Milk Bath session I often ask mom and dad what their vision is. Ramona’s session was planned out months ahead of time and included the ever talented Aspen Florist. Let me tell you…it was gorgeous!! I am always SO excited to work alongside some of our favourite local small businesses.
Making beautiful moments and celebrating in style and elegance is so much fun. Just look at how things turned out! I am sure you will agree…
All of our studio portrait sessions are an experience. It is not just about the photographs. It goes beyond celebrating this milestone for you and your family. It’s about how we make you feel during and long after, that accompanied with your gorgeous photographs is something pretty spectacular.
When working with our littles any new envoirnment is overwhelming for them. Just like you and I, no baby is the same. Some adapt right away, some cling to mama and some clearly let you know right from the beginning that they just don’t want to be there. This is why it’s so important for me to make baby (and of course mom) comfortable, safe and relaxed.
In doing so I always start with warming up to babe first. Then gradually move into our classic portraits (if the session is cake smash or milk bath) You can see here that this plan worked perfectly for Ramona ;)
Of course we stop for breaks too!
Helping hands…they say it takes a village right? Well mom and dad both kicking in to assist where needed. This my friends is and always what it’s about. Love, care, attention to detail and making memories at every stage of our session.
The image above was taken just 4 frames before the end of our session when she had enough. Little did we know she would have cut a molar later that day. Bless your heart Ramona, you were a trooper lol.

A Lifestyle Maternity Session
MOTHERHOOD
At times needs no words. Meet Camara & Dave. A lifestyle maternity session was planned for these two beautiful souls and I couldn’t have asked for a sweeter, excited couple to work with. They are so welcoming and so easy going that we naturally clicked and shared so many laughs that day.

Baby Girl’s First Birthday: Oshawa Baby Studio Petra King Photography
Every now and then you get the opportunity to meet a wise, sweet and incredible little babe that just has you stop for a minute and watch as she takes in everything during her session. Don’t get me wrong, every baby is amazing and full of personality which I love photographing. However when I met Fenna…and “Chicken” she struck a chord with me that stayed with me for a while after. Fenna was in studio this past summer with her mama to celebrate her 1st Birthday Milestone with some clean, classic portraits.
Maybe it’s the innocence, maybe it’s the curiosity or inquisitiveness or just pure adorableness. Either way this sweet little girl stole the show and made me fall in love with her. I am a HUGE fan of the “European Style” and this little one nailed it. Thanks to her awesome mama!
It’s important to me when photographing your little ones that it’s done in a way of documenting them as is. I do so with minimalism so the focus remains on them. To me that’s most important. When looking back on your babies photographs at these important stages I want them to be timeless classics. Ones that never go out of style.

The use of clean and classic (yet stylish) outfits for your baby during their milestone sessions should compliment your style, the feel of the photo and still have that emotional connection with mom and dad. Outfits are kept simple in studio for this reason alone. Leaving the rest to me (the photographer) to create a beautiful, fun and timeless experience that you will cherish for years to come.
Scheduling your baby’s milestone sessions is as easy as getting in contact with the studio. We typically do 6-8 months and 9-12 months. However, photographing your little one up to age 2 is always fun just in case you’ve missed out with previous milestones.
