Dreaming of the beach Oshawa Newcastle Family Photography

It’s January, the days are long, dark and cold. Does anyone else feel like the winter months drag on and on and when spring and summer roll around it’s gone in the blink of an eye? LOL…WHY? Why is this always the case? I mean I know we long for summer time, the warmth of the sun and breezy nights. But I wish we could bottle that feeling up and open it to rejuvenate ourselves whenever we wanted.

Today on my Instagram stories I shared a little of how I’ve been struggling with the winter blah’s. I must admit, I am NOT a winter lover. Haaa..while it’s perfect for Christmas Day, I could easily have enough for one week and then hibernate or move south :) As a busy mom of 2 teens, a dog mama and running my Portrait Studio it’s hard to carve out pockets of time for myself. BUT I do make it a non negotiable to get a workout in. Additionally it’s so important to take the right supplements and vitamins to support your body. If you are a busy mom and reading this you are well aware that most days it’s even hard to get a meal in. Be it hot, cold or the kids leftovers am I right?

I am very in tune with my body and when the emotions and feelings dip, I reach for things that work and that make me feel more like myself. For me that starts with my essential oils. I have been using them for about 10 years and sharing more and more with you about what I use on the daily. What I clean the studio with, diffuse during your sessions and when it’s time for sleep…what my favourite go to’s are.

There has been such a great response and interest in what I’ve been sharing of late. So first and foremost I LOVE that you are loving it too. So if you see something I use or do and it sparks your intrest or you want to learn more about, just ask. I am an open book and love sharing my favourite oils, products and daily routines with you too. Honestly…I know you will love them too.

Feel free to follow along if you’d like. I will be sharing more in the coming weeks ahead. If you’ve got questions, you know where to reach me. And if it’s not for you and you are just here for the pretty pictures that’s fine too. LOL.

Have a wonderful and healthy weekend ahead friends. Much love,

Petra

Happy New Year! Oshawa Durham Region Baby Family Photography

Hello hello!

Christmas break is officially over and while most are back to work/school today, I am sure there are a lot of mama's who will agree that the extra peace and quiet has been nice ;). We had an amazing Holiday season and I hope you and your family did too!

Babyandfamilyphotography

Speaking of family…do you and your family have any traditions? Send me a DM or comment below and let me know what they are. I’d love to learn more about you. I am always intrigued and curious to hear what other cultures love, do and look forward to once a year.

Father and daughter portrait

My family has some traditions that we look forward to all year round. My side of the family is from Barbados/Guyana and my husband’s is Scotland. Quite the mix I know but it certainly makes for some interesting meals/traditions. ;) If you have been follow me over on Instagram you’ll have seen I posted our Christmas morning breakfast in my stories. I know it’s not for everyone, but for me it’s so nostalgic and important to carry on traditions with my family. We have a few dishes we eat on Christmas morning and over the whole of the Christmas holiday. But one in particular we love is called Garlic Pork. It is a Guyanese dish that was introduced to Guyana from Portuguese settlers. We enjoy Garlic Pork (beef and pork) with Scotch Bonnet peppers and let it marinate for 6 days before Christmas. If it peaks your interest, you can find a recipe here.

Would you try it? Are you adventurous when it comes to trying different foods/ingredients from around the world? I am. I love it. Growing up, we loved trying different things both in our community and abroad. It’s important for me to live a life with variety, flavour and experiences.

Ok..now I’m hungry lol

What every expecting parent needs to know when choosing a Photographer

If you’ve booked a Maternity session with us or are thinking about doing so Congratulations and Welcome!

I wanted to share a little blurb with you today about the importance of choosing the right Photographer for you. Our community has an abundance of styles, businesses and various levels of Professionals. It’s important to keep these helpful tips in mind:

Make sure you love your photographer.

I am not talking about just loving their work , I am talking about loving their personality. Do your research, inquire about their reputation, brand, ethics and dive into their testimonials to make sure this is the right fit for you. During your session (maternity, baby and beyond) you will be with your photographer a lot. Sometimes in close proximity. Maternity sessions are intimate at times (think of wardrobe changes, adjusting details to be photo ready and of course there are things about our growing bodies that we aren’t quite comfortable with). All completely normal and I am here to help, and to help you feel comfortable in the process.

Baby sessions are beautiful and at times intimate too, mom, if you are still nursing I want you to know that my home studio is quiet, clean and cozy for you to do so. Relax, I’ve got you mom.

In short, regardless of the session you are coming into the studio for, know that you will end up with beautiful memories and gorgeous photographs for you and your family to love. But if I can leave you with one tip today…love your photographer ;) We LOVE what we do and pour a lot into making sure your experience is everything it should be.

Have a fantastic day and see you soon

P

Our Classic Maternity sessions are our most popular session with moms to be. Typically mom will come in by herself or with her husband/partner or SO. But every once in a while the whole family will join in on the celebration.

Our Classic Maternity sessions are our most popular session with moms to be. Typically mom will come in by herself or with her husband/partner or SO. But every once in a while the whole family will join in on the celebration.

And let me tell you, we have so much fun!

It fills my cup when young families come into the studio to celebrate important milestones with me. It’s such an honour! You’re experience, how I make you feel and the memories we document together really are the backbone of my business. And of course gorgeous timeless photographs for you and your loved ones to treasure.

One of the ways as a Business Owner I make this a staple of my service to you is ensuring you know that my home is healthy, cleans and welcoming for you and even your toughest critics.

Ever heard the saying mi Casa et su Casa? It’s true, I welcome you into my home and business studio as family. Kids and babies (and husbands too) quickly become at ease and comfortable. I’ve created a space that makes it easy for you to relax and be excited about our session. A HUGE part of this is peace of mind with how I clean my home and studio. My favourite and longtime love for Thieves Household Cleaner is hands down the best all natural and multipurpose go to product.

Young Living has over 600 products. Not just essential oils :) Their home cleaning products are the best and smell so amazing. Natural and clean, no harsh synthetic chemical scents/fragrances. You may have heard me talk about Thieves and the powerhouse oil/cleaner it is. Did you know that Thieves kills 99,96% of airborne germs and bacteria? Pretty impressive right?

If you have any questions about Thieves Oil/Household Cleaner, or maybe I’ve peaked your curiosity to try some yourself, feel free to email me anytime. I’d love to share more with you on the product/s I love using. I know that you and your family will too! Or if you are ready to experience some yourself just follow this link to for a FREE account. Amalia's Maternity Session: Toronto Oshawa Maternity Photographer

When I first connected with Amalia she informed me she was looking to capture her 2nd pregnancy with her little family. She also wanted to incorporate a sentimental outfit. So of course I couldn’t wait to see what this was. Amalia and her family came in from the west end of Toronto. Although they call Italy home, and are fairly new to Canada they are fitting and adjusting perfectly!

See those adorable overalls? They came all the way from Italy and Amaila’s mother wore them when she was expecting her. I mean…how cute is that? I LOVE when clients bring in a little piece of them and items that are sentimental. Call me old fashioned but it’s little details like this that really make your session that much more memorable.

TorontoOshawaMaternityPhotographer

Thank you Amalia and family. We had so much fun with our session and I can’t wait to welcome you back into the studio in the near future. All the best with your sweet baby girl! We can’t wait to hear of her arrival. xo
