Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome to the Studio Session FAQ
As your Durham Region photographer specializing in maternity, newborn, and milestone sessions, I know you might have a few questions before booking your perfect photoshoot. Whether you’re stepping in front of the camera for the first time or returning to capture another chapter of your family’s story, my goal is to make your experience as relaxed, joyful, and stress-free as possible.
Below, you’ll find answers to the most common questions I receive about studio photography in Oshawa, Clarington, and Bowmanville and the surrounding areas. From what to wear, to when to book, to how I help little ones feel comfortable, this guide is here to help you feel confident and prepared for your special day.
What is the best time to schedule a maternity session?
Most moms-to-be book between 28–34 weeks, when your bump is beautifully round but you’re still comfortable moving around. Booking early ensures your preferred date with a Durham Region maternity photographer. I recommend reserving your Oshawa maternity photography session a few months in advance to secure your spot.
How should I prepare my baby for a milestone or cake smash session?
For baby milestone photography in Oshawa or cake smash sessions in Durham Region, bring a favourite snack, a familiar toy, and schedule the shoot around baby’s happiest time of day. For cake smashes, a little frosting taste test at home helps ensure big smiles. But a big surprise day of is always cute too!
What should we wear for our studio photos?
My studio offers a curated client wardrobe for both mom and baby with soft, neutral tones perfect for light and airy newborn photography in Oshawa. You’re also welcome to bring your own outfits — I offer an inspo guide so that the colours you borrow and that of which outfit you bring, work beautifully for maternity and or family newborn photos in Durham Region.
How long does a typical studio session last?
Maternity and milestone photography sessions typically run 45–60 minutes, while studio newborn photography can run a little over, to allow time for feeding, soothing, and breaks. I work at baby’s pace to keep the session relaxed and comfortable and enjoyable.
Can partners and siblings join the session?
Absolutely! Whether it’s your partner joining in for studio maternity photos or older siblings cuddling a new baby during a newborn photoshoot, those family connections make your gallery even more meaningful and timeless.
