And your newborn photos should feel calm, intentional, and you. There isn’t one “perfect” day, but there are two lovely options that many families choose depending on what matters most to you and fits your schedule.
Welcoming a new baby is a big moment
Early Newborn Sessions ~ 1–2 Weeks After Birth
This window captures your baby when they’re sleepier, curlier, and tiny-newborn-fresh. It’s ideal for classic newborn portraits that highlight those precious little details — tiny fingers & toes, tight curls, how tiny they fit into your hands and all the fresh details of those first few weeks.
Why families love it:
• Baby is often deep in that newborn sleepy curl
• Photos feel beautifully fresh and timeless
• Partners may still have flexible work schedules
What to think about:
• You’re newly home and adjusting
• Feeding and sleep routines may still be developing
Later Newborn Sessions ~3–6 Weeks After Birth
If you want to give yourself a bit more space to settle into life with your baby before your session, this timeframe is equally beautiful. Babies are often more alert, expressive, and starting to show personality.
Why families love it:
• You may feel more healed and relaxed
• Babies are more alert and moving around
• Schedules feel a bit easier to manage
What to think about:
• Babies may not sleep as deeply and can be awake/curious
• Your images may have a slightly older baby feel (which are still beautiful)
How Booking Works
• Reserve early: Contact me while you’re still pregnant — ideally by your second trimester — so your due date can be penciled into my calendar.
• Flexible planning: Once your baby arrives, we’ll choose the best date together based on how you’re feeling and what timing you prefer.
• Baby’s timing matters: Babies don’t always follow due dates — and that’s okay. I leave room in my schedule to accommodate early, on-time, or late arrivals.
The goal is a relaxed, meaningful session — not stress — and I’ll support you through every step of planning.
FAQ’S
newborn session timing
• When should I book my newborn session?
As soon as you know you want photos — even before your baby arrives. Photographers often book weeks or months in advance, especially during busy seasons.
• Is there a “best” age for photos?
Traditionally, many photographers recommend within the first few weeks (1–3) because babies are sleepy and curly. But beautiful newborn images can absolutely be captured up to 6 weeks and sometimes beyond — especially if you’re choosing natural, connection-led images.
• What if my baby arrives early or late?
That’s completely normal — once your baby is born, just let me know and we’ll pick a session date that works for your family.
• What if I missed the early newborn window?
It’s okay! Many families choose a slightly later timeframe and still get meaningful images that show who your baby is at that stage — alert eyes, personality, or cuddles with family.
